Day 3: Zubiri to Pamplona - 26km

Mom with amigo LoLo in Pamplona
Sue and I again started in the dark (6:45) and I used my iPhone Torch as a flashlight ... not great, but got the job done for 30 minutes until the sun arrived. We enjoyed our first breakfast on the trail in a remote town ... Sue had a panini and I had a French chocolate crepe ... delicious. The prices over here are inexpensive .. about 50% less than home - even in Pamplona.

Our trail today was fairly easy - serene along the river with beautiful canopy and no heat ... Sue is killing it. I'm a little embarrassed about my knee and had to buy a knee brace today in Pamplona ... Oh well who said it would be easy?

The Pilgrims meal the other night came with fish (trout) with its head, and Sue and our two Spanish friends turned it away as well as I. So tonight in Pamplona we went to an Italian resturant on the plaza and had an amazing dinner.

Tonight we have lightened our rucksacks/backpacks and are sending five pounds of clothes, sleeping bag and PB gels off to Compostela as every ounce of extra weight can hurt the body over time. I out hike Sue uphill, but she carries me downhill ... really is special to be together on The Camino as we feel blessed.

Pamplona is a beautiful city and the people here are so proud of the Running of the Bulls ... it's everywhere. The streets are narrow, old buildings are tall and well kept. We enjoyed our time with Canadian Cindy (on her 2nd Camino) and Mark from Holland this evening.

We have 18 miles tomorrow and Sue is already asleep!

We prayed for all our friends and family back home while on the trail today.

Blessings and Buen Camino!

  6. Took my knee braces to the Camino with me and they were a wonderful help. Even the young folks started buying knee braces for the mountains in Leon and Galicia. Give the trout another try! I tried it several times in Spain and it was always delicious. The head bothered me at first but I quickly got used to it. Oh, and I left stuff in every place I stayed so I got down to a very light pack by the end. No matter how much you hear don't bring stuff you don't believe it til it's on your back. We met a young girl one day giving out items in her pack to everyone at the cafe where she was eating lunch.
