With Alfonso along The Way |
Today was great. Our hike was about 15 miles, but so much easier than yesterday. We enjoyed most of the hike speaking with a great man named Alfonso from Spain. Dad and I learned so much about the history of Spain. We are staying in a great little pension with 4 other rooms who share a bath. Dad just did our laundry and hung it on the clothesline. We also have an update on Guillermo (we met him yesterday in Roncesvalles - the man who is cycling the Camino with only his arms), as we saw him today in town (Zubiri) and he let us know that he had a really great first leg of his journey, and it couldn't have gone better for him!
From Dad:
Today's 15 miles seemed like a walk in the park compared to the Pyrenees yesterday. Sue is just killing it out here as her hiking preparation did the job ... very proud of her! It's amazing how easy it is to meet interesting people on The Camino and quickly engage in conversation regardless of language barrier. Our friend, Alphonso, from Madrid speaks 4 languages and he taught us so much about the history of St James, the Camino and Espana. We started at 6:45 in the dark and we used my iPhone torchlight to guide us. We'll start at 7 mañana as it is light out at 7:15. We're staying in a Pension tonight in Zubiri and cooking our own dinner. We'll also shop at the mercado before 8 pm to get our provisions for the 15 mile hike to Pamplona tomorrow. Life is great on The Camino and feel so blessed to have this special time with Sue. Buen Camino mis amigos y la familia.
