Day 15: Castojeriz to Fromista - 25.5km

From my Dad:
Chantal (France), Leo, and Christina (Switzerland)

We got up at 4:45 to beat the heat then froze for 2 hours to start the hike ... Hah hah hah. I actually thought about putting a spare pair of socks on my hands to help me out.

My profound statement for today is if you hike The Camino don't eat a Cafe con leche con super sized chocolate bar para desayuna as you might feel infermo para next seis miles like I did!

We hiked the first six miles in the dark on a Roman path over 2,000 years old ... hard to comprehend!  It was a steep climb out of Castrojeriz and the views behind us with the stars and sun coming up were priceless!

Sue and I blew away today's 16 mile hike and checked into our Hostel before noon. Of course they didn't have our reservation, but I convinced them in my superior Spanish that they made a mistake and boom ... boom we had a room.

We visited two of the three churches here in Fromista and they were a delight!

We had an incredible dinner, but what followed was even better. As we were heading out Sue said hi to Leo from Netherlands and I introduced myself to Chantal from France and also Christina from Switzerland. Leo is a Franciscan deacon. Chantal has 9 children and one of her daughters recently passed in a bicycle accident and she showed us pictures. She is hiking her 7th Camino and 2nd in honor of her daughter. Christina recently lost one of her best friends.

We don't even know how to process the evening other than to thank God for this opportunity and experience.

We feel so blessed to be out here and know so many of you back home are praying for us!

Buen Camino!
